They can range from a simple explanation of the document which is enclosed to a more detailed summary of the main points covered by the document.

In fact almost all documents will be more effective and their intentions clearer if they are sent with a good cover letter.

It is important that :

  • The grammar and spelling is checked and correct.
  • It is addressed to the right person with their name and or position correctly spelt and worded.(Check on their website)
  • The heading describes the subject or name or the document enclosed.
  • The content is brief and to the point.
  • You have included your contact details such as e-mail address and contact telephone number.

Writing an Application Letter can be a type cover letter or a letter on its own.

A Resume Cover Letter is a specific type of Cover or Covering letter.
